The purpose of insurance…is to insure!
This is something that many consumers often forget. However, it’s also something that many insurance companies often forget.
That’s what happened in this case. A homeowner had major water damage to his home. The damage came from a cracked toilet. The insurance company (State Farm) forgot that the purpose of insurance, is to insure! State Farm decided to deny the claim.
The insured decided to call 3-On-Your-Side (a local news station that helps people in bad situations) and ask for their help. Luckily for the insured, 3-On-Your-Side was able to get State Farm to quickly reverse their decision and pay the claim.
Chase Rasmussen and I sit down and discuss this story and give tips that you can use should you ever be in a similar situation.
Watch the video above and learn!
Take a look at these 4 points that we discussed in the video.
- The purpose of insurance is to insure. State Farm was looking for ways to get out of it, instead of looking at the policy to see how it’s covered.
- What does it say about an insurance company that will deny an individual (with no way to publicize the denial) but as soon as some big dogs get involved (that can publicize it) they decide to pay it.
- Don’t automatically think that just because you’ve been with a company for a long time (almost 30 years) that they will look out for your best interests.
- He only lived in the home part time. If you’re doing the same, make sure your insurance company knows. Some policies will deny certain coverage if it’s a secondary home.
